Two GHS athletes qualify for state track meet

Two Gloucester High School athletes qualified for the 2017 VHSL Group 5A State Outdoor Track and Field Championships with their performance in the 5A South Regional Meet held Friday and Saturday at Gloucester High School.

Senior Vivian Pryor will return to the state meet after placing fourth in the shot put at the regional with a throw of 37’5”. Pryor also met the Milestat Elite Athlete mark with her toss.

Pryor’s first cousin, John Pryor Jr., qualified for the state meet and set a new school record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.16. The state meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Todd Stadium in Newport News.

In other results for the Dukes, Ainsley Miller was seventh in the pole vault by clearing 8’6” and Alyssa Lass was 10th in the 1,600 meter race in 5:41.34. Lass, Katherine Saunders, Makala White and Allison Kladler were 12th in the 3,200 relay and Ruby Williams was 18th in the 800 in 2:31.77.  For the Gloucester boys, Aaron Shi...
