Two from GHS find success in Virginia Women’s Wrestling

Two Gloucester High School grapplers are finding success in the girls’ division of the Virginia Women’s Wrestling team based in Virginia Beach.

After finishing up their high school season, freshman McKenzie Walker and sophomore Michaela Foley competed last weekend in the War of the Roses East Coast Championship and Open at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond.

In Richmond, Walker placed first in the 130-pound division and Foley was 10th in the same division in a six-woman bracket. Both are now training with Virginia Women’s Wrestling and GHS wrestling coach Ricky Pierce to ready for the Girls Folkstyle Nationals and Junior Women’s Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla., scheduled for March 27-29. Last year in the national event, Walker took first place in the Schoolgirl division (128 lbs.) to become the first Schoolgirl National Champion in the 128 lbs. division from Virginia and an All American for Middle School. ...
