Two former GHS athletes excel at triathlon

Two former Gloucester High School Dukes led 332 triathletes in the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship for USA Triathlon, which was held on June 12 in Williamsburg.

The two 2007 GHS graduates—Blaine O’Reilly, an All-Conference runner for Gloucester, and Jacob Capin, a first-team All-District basketball player—last competed together in the 2007 VHSL District Championships.

On June 12, O’Reilly outpaced all runners in the final portion of the event, covering the 10K run course in 36:35. Capin set the fastest bike split of the day, completing the 40K cycling course in 56:49. Capin also had the fastest transition two (bike to run), while both O’Reilly and Capin were among the five fastest in transition one. Capin, an All-American USAT triathlete, placed first in his age group (25-29) and second overall for the event with a time of 2:05.52.
