Two exhibits on display in August at RAL

Two new exhibits will be on display this month at the RAL Arts Center in Kilmarnock: “Waterman’s World” and “Artful Aging: Artwork Created by Tartan Village Residents.”
Stephanie Brown, executive director of RAL, announced the choices for winners of both shows during a public reception held at the center on Friday.
The 54 original artworks in the members’ show, “Waterman’s World” include paintings, photography, fiber art, glass, and sculpture entered by member artists. The show’s judge, George Jennings, is a retired architect and waterman, and an artist who maintains a studio gallery in Tappahannock.
The first-place winter in Waterman’s World was “Sunrise Crabbing,” an oil painting by Gayle Merrill that “captured the sparkling effect of light bouncing off the water.” Second place went to “Piankitank Tanning,” a watercolor painting by Carol Vaughn, and third place was “Reporting for Duty,” a watercolor by Doug Mock.
