Two exhibits on display at RAL

Two exhibits are currently on display at the Rappahannock Art League Art Center in Kilmarnock: “Bloom,” featuring floral elements, and “Native Species,” focusing on species native to Virginia. A total of 94 pieces of art are in a wide range of mediums may be viewed, from paintings and pastels to sculpture, stoneware, jewelry, and more. Celeste Johnson, who has an AA degree in horticulture and flower design and a certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration from the Corcoran College of Art and Design, was the judge for both shows. “Spring Fling,” an oil painting by Carol Baron, took first place in the show “Bloom,” with Johnson commenting that the piece was “reminiscent of the painting of the Masters.” Second place went to “Cradling Fire,” a photograph by Richard Harmon, and third place to “Dandelions–Early Spring 1,” an oil painting by Heidi Christensen. Honorable mentions went to Alicia Daily, Lizsa Ira, Karen Kingsley, Gayle Merrill, Carrie Rehberg and Karen Williams. Juli Schuszler...
