The art exhibits “Love is…” and “Winter Wonderland” opened last week at the Rappahannock Art League Art Center in Kilmarnock. Nearly 60 pieces of art, including paintings, pastels, mixed media, photographs, glasswork, stoneware, fiber art and sculptures, are on display and will remain open to the public throughout February. First place in the “Love is…” exhibit went to “Breakfast for Two,” an oil painting by Linda Marshall. Judge Helen Bevan, a studio and art history professor at Virginia Peninsula Community College, said the piece “connects the viewer to the whimsy of a story book or a child’s tea party, while also demanding attention for its formal compositional strengths.” Second place went to “Watching Seagulls,” a watercolor by Doug Mock, and third place to “Innermost,” an oil painting by Gayle Merrill.
