Two cases involving county, JB Property nonsuited

A consent order was handed down by Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Shaw on Monday, Jan. 8, nonsuiting two cases involving Mathews County and the construction company of supervisor Dave Jones.

The two suits were Mathews vs. JB Property Development LLC and JB Property LLC v. Mathews County.

In the consent order, the county agreed to release the bond posted by Jones’s company, JB Property Development, in favor of the county for work performed in 2018 at 674 Morse Point Road in Peary. The work, elevation of the structure, had been funded by a grant provided to the county under the federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

The county also agreed to pay JB Property Development $22,112.46, or 10 percent of the contract, which was withheld after the company was dismissed from the job and another contractor was paid $20,243.79 to complete it.

Finally, the county agreed to issue a written letter of apology to JB Property Development.
