Two board work sessions planned in Mathews

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors has two work sessions planned.

The board will meet with representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at 10 o’clock this morning at Mathews Memorial Library to discuss local project priorities. Mathews County Administrator Mindy Conner said that most of the discussion will probably revolve around possible dredging projects.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be in the library’s upstairs room.

A second work session will be held after Tuesday’s regular board meeting, which begins at 1 p.m. in the historic courthouse on Court Street. Charlie Banks, the state floodplain coordinator, will be on hand to explain the floodplain ordinance and how it’s administered, said Conner. He will particularly discuss proposed renovations at the Islander on Gwynn’s Island. This meeting is also open to the public. ...
