Two bird counts to be held locally

Two Audubon Christmas Bird Counts will be held in the community in the next two weeks.

The Middle Peninsula Bird Club has invited birdwatchers to participate in its annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count, to be held this Sunday in this area.

The Mathews Audubon Christmas Bird Count is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, beginning before dawn and ending at dusk. Unlike in past years, there will be no pre-count central gathering of volunteers or post-count tally and meal. Rather, all birders will venture out to their sectors individually, said compiler Joyce McKelvey. There is also no inclement weather date, since Jan. 5 is the last date for the count.

The Middle Peninsula Audubon Christmas Bird Count is a newly organized count for 2019 that will encompass a 15-mile diameter circle including Gloucester, Middlesex, and King and Queen counties.
