Two arrested in Mathews burglaries

  

  

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection to a string of residential burglaries that have occurred in Mathews County over the past month.

Christy Nicole Respress, 28, and Michael Raymond Darnell, 25, both of the 8000 block of Cedar Drive in Gloucester, were identified as suspects by the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office and arrested in Gloucester on Feb. 3 without incident, according to a press release from Major J.T. Williams of the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office.

Mathews deputies had spent about a month investigating the burglaries, which occurred in the New Point and North areas of the county, said the release. Victims had reported the theft of a large number of hand tools, power tools, antiques, televisions, fine china and firearms.

A search warrant was executed on the day the arrests were made, and a large amount of property was recovered from the suspects’ home, the release stated.
