Tuesday’s blood drive nets 71 units

Tuesday’s American Red Cross blood drive at Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, surpassed its goal. Red Cross spokesperson Mary Beth Mayer said the goal for the drive was set at 70 units of blood; 71 were collected.

“We only had one point during the day when the chairs were empty,” Mayer said.

She reported 70 people came in willing to donate; there were six deferrals; two people were unable to complete their donation and 10 people were able to give double red donations.

Pins were given to Billy Moore (20 gallons) and Easby “Buddy” King (12 gallons).

Gloucester’s next bloodmobile will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22. A location has yet to be announced. ...
