Triad Senior Safety Fair held in Mathews

Dozens of Mathews residents attended Tuesday’s Mathews County Triad Senior Safety Fair at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building in Hudgins to hear talks on a variety of topics related to safety for seniors.

The event was also a chance for friends and neighbors to gather and enjoy lunch and musical entertainment, as well as to have a chance to win door prizes from a dozen or so organizations and vendors with booths on-site.

Topics centered around safety in the home this year, including a presentation on the topic by the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, as well as talks on hoarding by Stephanie Edwards of the York County Department of Social Services and on organizing by Cheryl Wallisch of Organization in the Home.

Sheriff Mark Barrick discussed crime statistics in the county with those gathered, afterward allowing plenty of time for a question and answer session. Questions were varied and included concerns residents had about traffic infractions and traffic safety issues.
