Trent Levy takes Governor’s Cup

Trent Levy of Fishing Bay Yacht Club, Deltaville, won the top trophy in the 53rd annual Virginia Governor’s Cup Regatta held last weekend at the Ware River Yacht Club.

Levy, sailing in the 14-boat Laser Radial Class, had four first-place finishes and a fourth to take the Governor’s Cup. The Laser Radials made up the largest regatta class and subsequently competed for the top trophy.  

Event chairman Clayton James said almost 70 boats competed in the two days of racing, with about 50 boats competing in the Governor’s Cup Regatta. 

Another 19 boats, comprised mostly of young sailors from Fishing Bay Yacht Club and Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, competed in the Optimist Regatta held in conjunction with the Governor’s Cup. 

The Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce Trophy, recognizing the top performing junior sailor, went to Opti sailor Guthrie Brawn of Fishing Bay YC.
