Treasures from the museum

The Gazette-Journal continues its series this week focusing on local museums, as it highlights the preservation and education efforts of many Gloucester and Mathews organizations. This week, we take a look at the Woodville School Museum and the Legacy Suite at Bethel Baptist Church, both in Gloucester County. The museums’ workers shared the purpose of their establishment and pointed out their most important collections. We also took a few photos of some key artifacts for a quick look inside the exhibits, which we are sharing with our readers. The Bethel Heritage and Legacy Suite, located at Bethel Baptist Church on Hickory Fork Road across from Peasley Middle School, preserves the church’s history and its lasting impact on the Gloucester community. Rather than functioning as a traditional museum, the suite highlights the congregation’s heritage through historical artifacts, photographs, documents, and exhibits that tell the story of one of the county’s oldest African American churches....
