Traffic signal to be installed at T.C. Walker Road

A new traffic signal will be installed beginning late this fall at the intersection of Route 17 with Route 628 (T.C. Walker Road) in Gloucester.

Kelly Hannon, a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said that the project was advertised for bids in August and should be completed early in 2015. The new signal is a safety improvement project in conjunction with the new Page Middle School under construction.

VDOT has funds available for that project, she said, which carries an estimated cost of $375,000.

Meanwhile, VDOT has two other signal projects in the works at different portions of Route 17. These projects, although a couple of years away, also are being planned as safety improvement measures, Hannon said Sept. 17.

VDOT plans to upgrade and modify six existing traffic signals over an almost 13-mile stretch along the county’s main highway. Signals will be upgraded at the intersection of Route 17 with the following roads: Route 616 (Belroi Road), Route 17...
