Traffic sensors being installed on Coleman

Virginia Department of Transportation crews will install traffic loop sensors on the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. today.

The loop installation, which was scheduled to begin yesterday, will occur in the northbound direction in the far outside right lane adjacent to the toll plaza’s administration building, said Jennifer Gwaltney, a VDOT spokesperson. Vehicles wider than 12 feet will not be able to travel through the toll plaza during the construction period, she said, and must arrange for an oversized vehicle escort to travel on the southbound side.

All other toll lanes will remain open to traffic, and only minor delays are expected at the bridge, which carries Route 17 over the York River between Gloucester Point and Yorktown.
