Traffic delays expected Sunday on Coleman Bridge

Two traffic stops of up to 30 minutes each will be required Sunday at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge. Virginia Department of Transportation spokesperson Jennifer Gwaltney said the traffic stops will be held in conjunction with single-lane northbound closures on the span from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.

The single-lane closures are necessary, Gwaltney said Wednesday, to allow crews to perform electrical and mechanical work to the bridge. The span will remain fully operational throughout the work, she said, but the traffic stops will be required so that crews can reposition equipment.

Maritime traffic will also be impacted by the bridge work that day, Gwaltney said.

The scheduled maintenance activities are weather dependent, Gwaltney said, and in the event of rain the work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. the following Sunday, April 28.
