Members of the Middle Peninsula Bird Club surveyed Catlett Islands on Tuesday, Nov. 12, partnering with staff from the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia. The survey relates to conservation of certain species including waterfowl, shorebirds, and marsh birds. The group identified 27 species of birds and 285 individual birds, including 17 Great Blue Herons and two species of shorebirds (Dunlins and Black-bellied Plovers). The group of birders expect to see more waterfowl species during the winter survey in February. Among those taking part were, from left, Erin Reilly of VIMS, Harry Colestock, Abrianna Sadler of VIMS, Gee Brownley, Dave Yeager and, not pictured, Tom and Susan Crockett.
