Tour de Chesapeake returns to Mathews on May 20

Mathews County, along with the Mathews Visitor and Information Center and the Mathews Land Conservancy, are teaming up to host the 19th annual Tour de Chesapeake cycling event, which will be held on Saturday, May 20.

The event will welcome cyclists from around the state and beyond for a weekend of flat scenic cycling, delicious local food, toe-tapping music, and nice, down-home folks to help with whatever is needed, a release stated.

The tour is presented by Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, as well as Diana Burton and Bernadette LaCasse of IsaBell K. Horsley Real Estate, Chesapeake Bank, and the Mathews Economic Development Authority. 

“We couldn’t do this event without these wonderful sponsors who believe in providing healthy, affordable activities for the whole family to enjoy,” event director Lynda Smith Greve said.

The county will begin welcoming cyclists on Friday evening, May 19, for check-in and registration at Thomas Hunter Middle School. Entertainment...
