Tour de Chesapeake returns Saturday

After having to cancel last year due to COVID-19, Mathews County, along with the Mathews Visitor Center and Mathews Land Conservancy are teaming up to host the 22nd annual Tour de Chesapeake cycling event taking place Saturday.

Though the event had to be “scaled back” in terms of offerings this year, restrictions were lifted in time to avoid capping participation. The event will welcome cyclists from around the state and beyond for a weekend of flat scenic cycling, local eats, toe-tapping music, and down-home folks to help out with whatever is needed, a release stated.

The tour is presented by Bernadette La Casse of Burton’s Waterfront, Chesapeake Bank, the Mathews Economic Development Authority and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Lynda Smith Greve, event director, stated, “We couldn’t do this event without these wonderful sponsors who believe in providing healthy, affordable activities for the whole family to enjoy.”
