Tour de Chesapeake returns May 16

The 17th annual Tour de Chesapeake cycling event returns to Mathews on Saturday, May 16. Bicyclists from around the state and beyond will be coming to the county for a weekend of flat scenic cycling, enjoying local cuisine, music and more.

The Mathews Visitor and Information Center and the Mathews Land Conservancy are teaming up to host the annual event, with sponsorship from Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, as well as Diana Burton of IsaBell K. Horsley Real Estate and the Mathews Industrial Development Authority.

Chesapeake Bay Boat Tours will be offering History Boat Tours on the East River on Friday, May 15 and Sunday, May 17 and will man the Water Taxi for cyclists traveling between Williams Wharf Landing and Mobjack on Saturday, May 16.

The county will welcome cyclists on the evening of May 15 for check-in and registration at Thomas Hunter Middle School. The supported ride takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the following day.
