Tour de Chesapeake goes on despite rain

In spite of a steady rain that fell all day, a few intrepid souls still managed to take part in Saturday’s 18th annual Tour de Chesapeake, bicycling along Mathews County roads.

“We had some—less than 100—brave cyclists who took to the roads on Saturday and Sunday,” said event director Lynda Smith Greve. “The rain slowed, however, just in time to have a wonderful Party at the Wharf on Saturday night. The food, bar and band were fantastic and around 150 residents and visitors alike enjoyed the event.

“We will be back next year,” Greve concluded.

Signage remained up and roadside stops still operated despite the rain, including the Poker Pedal, in which riders collected playing cards from five stops to try to build a winning hand. The best hand won a $200 American Express gift card and worst hand took home $100.
