Touchdown Club weight room donations getting good use

Gloucester High School athletes are making good use of some additional equipment donated by the Dukes Touchdown Club. The club helped to purchase a multi-rack weight system for the GHS field house a couple of years ago. The GHS athletic department added another and now the Touchdown Club has provided a third.

The units, customized with GHS logos and colors, cost about $5,600 to $6,000 each, according to Touchdown Club spokesman Scott Petty.

"They help out immensely," said Gloucester football coach Sonny Merchant. "They allow the kids to do everything we need them to do without leaving one spot. With this one piece, I can do 20 different exercises. It provides more usage and more versatility. It’s easy to use, and it makes for less equipment in the room. With three racks, I can have 24 kids working in just one quarter of the room."
