Top teacher

Mathews County teacher Michelle Williams recently traveled to Nashville to take part in the 2025 CareerTech VISION Conference and New Teacher of the Year Award Nomination. Williams was named Outstanding New Teacher of the Year for Virginia Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Science in 2024. Upon winning that award, the application was forwarded to Virginia ACTE where she won New Teacher of the Year in January 2025. From there, the application went to Region II ACTE which includes the entire southeastern region of the U.S., Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. After a phone interview, she traveled to Fayetteville, Georgia, where she won Region II New Teacher of the Year and then after a second phone interview, she traveled to the National ACTE Awards Banquet where all regional award winners were recognized and celebrated.
