Top Bay Aging officials not at work

Some operating policies of Bay Aging were called into question in two separate governmental reviews earlier this year—and now three top agency officials have not been at work for more than a month.

"We don’t say ‘leave,’ they’re just not here," said Kathy Vesley-Massey, chief operating officer for the agency. The employees in question are president Allyn Gemerek, his wife Kay Sheldon (who serves as vice president of administration), and their son Josh Gemerek (who serves as senior vice president of Bay Family Housing).

Jimmie Carter, who chairs the Bay Aging board of directors, said last week the three had been on "administrative and other leave" as Josh Gemerek’s son had been hospitalized. On Tuesday, Carter said he had no further comment on their not being at work with the agency recently.
