Tomlinson Exterminating Service, Inc., is celebrating a half century business in 2021.
Founded in 1971 by Christopher Tomlinson, the business has sustained success and gone through changes to provides expert pest control services to their customers for the last five decades.
The business is now run by Christopher Tomlinson’s sons Michael and Jeffrey along with Jeffrey’s wife Shelly. Jeffrey started working with his father part-time in 1979, eventually moving to full-time four years later. He said that when his father had opened the business he was also working at Anheuser-Busch.
His father would spend the week working his full-time job and on the weekends as an exterminator. He said his father was licensed thanks to previous work with Orkin.
After several years of working both jobs, the elder Tomlinson made his business his full-time career. Jeffrey said that he’s proud that his father decided to commit to the business. The family-run business has allowed for each generation of the family to work there and gain experience. Tomlinson’s children each worked there through high school and when home from college.
Working closely with his family and seeing his parents retire is what he’s enjoyed most about being in the family business for so many years.
Tomlinson said that they’ve experienced changes throughout the years in what they offer. The two biggest changes in recent years have been their approach to termite and moisture control. For termites, they use the Sentricon system which is an environmentally friendly form of baiting and trapping termites. He said that Sentricon won the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award and that it is safe to use near wells and water ways.
Moisture control has also come a long way. Tomlinson said these days they can install barriers to seal up any potential causes of moisture or full encapsulations of crawl spaces to seal up home and install small dehumidifiers to fully get rid of any buildup.
To celebrate the milestone, Tomlinson said that plans are still in the works, but they will hold an appreciation day for their customers to occur in the summer. He said that he wants to thank all of the business’s customers for all the support they’ve received throughout the years.
