Timberneck property rezoning wins approval

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted 6-0 last Wednesday night, Nov. 8, to approve rezoning a large tract for residential purposes located in the York Magisterial District at the end of Borden Road (Route 635).

Timberneck LLC (property owner) applied to amend the county’s Zoning Map to reclassify about 645 acres from PUD-1 District (conditional) to SC-1- (Suburban Countryside).

Anne Ducey-Ortiz, director of planning and zoning, said the rezoning will allow the applicant to develop 49 residential lots, with no net increase in density from the proposed PUD that was never built. However, Ducey-Ortiz said that some improvements had been made at the site including construction of a pier, shoreline stabilization and a guardhouse.

The property, now in agricultural use, contains a historic cemetery and some other graves have been found during an archeological search of the area, she said.
