Tillage, Scribe to lead class at MHS graduation Saturday

Carlyn Marie Tillage and Allison Waverly Scribe have been named the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Mathews High School Class of 2013, which will graduate on Saturday.

Eighty-nine young men and women are expected to step onto the stage to receive their diplomas during the 74th annual commencement exercises, beginning at 2 p.m. in the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium.

Tillage, the daughter of Cindy Gray of Gloucester, received a class-leading grade point average of 4.47. She will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall.

Scribe, the daughter of Jason and Liz Scribe of Hallieford, finished her career at MHS with a 4.37 GPA. She will attend Tulane University.

Saturday’s ceremony begins with students and faculty marching into the auditorium to the traditional music of "Pomp and Circumstance," played by the MHS Symphonic Band under the direction of Wayne Fillingim. Following the National Anthem, senior class president Kayla Robins will welcome the ...
