Tickets available for VA250 production of ‘Crickets on a Hill’

Tickets are now available for the Mathews County VA250 Committee and Court House Players production of “Crickets on a Hill,” to be performed six times in July as part of Mathews County’s VA250 celebration.

The Judy Ward musical was written in 1976 as part of Mathews County’s celebration of the nation’s Bicentennial of American Independence. It has been performed only twice since then, telling a story of local colonists who become involved in the historic battle between the last royal governor of Virginia, Lord Dunmore, and Patriot General Andrew Lewis, which led to Dunmore’s ouster from Virginia. The show now has an expanded storyline written by director Cindy Bocrie and a fully orchestrated score created by David Shuber.

Performances are at Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews. Dates and times are Thursday and Friday, July 2 and 3, at 7 p.m.; Sunday, July 5; at 3 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18; at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, July 19, at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, available in Mathews at the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center, 239 Main Street, and Mathews Pharmacy, 10858 Buckley Hall Road; in Gloucester at Office Supply, 6754 Main Street; and in Hayes at Franktronics, 3618 George Washington Memorial Highway.
