Tractor-trailers, logging trucks and similar large commercial vehicles are not supposed to be using Main Street in Gloucester for through traffic, said Captain Ryan Cookson of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.
Cookson said that sheriff’s deputies on patrol can, and do, stop tractor-trailers and other large vehicles and issue a summons in support of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s posted signs for no through truck traffic on Main Street.
While the fifth phase of the Main Street Enhancement Project is underway, trucks are to enter the Court House area only by traveling on Route 17 Bypass to Fox Mill Center and then turning onto Main Street (Route 17 Business) from that direction, said Garrey Curry, Gloucester’s public works director.
Delivery trucks serving businesses in the village can still exit the area through the work zone heading back toward Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Curry said.
