The Thrifty Spot, a project of Mathews High School’s special education department, has reopened in its new quarters in the former YMCA building on Buckley Hall Road in Mathews, near Liberty Square.

Saturday’s grand reopening saw a steady stream of customers, according to director Stacie Martone, who is the special education teacher at the high school.

The new space is bright and airy, with more display space, and it offers a wider variety of items, all organized by department, said Martone. There are areas for ladies’ and men’s clothing, housewares, sporting goods, seasonal items, and children’s clothing, toys and books. There is also a full craft section, with fabric available for purchase. The classic silk scarves made by special education students as part of their project-based learning are prominently displayed for sale, as well.
