Three local youth golfers qualify for competition

At a Drive, Chip and Putt qualifier held on July 24 at Kiln Creek in Newport News, three local golfers were in the zone.

Peyton and Pierce Lambert of Hartfield, and Levi Vannoy of Gloucester, offered strong showings in their respective age groups and in so doing qualified for the subregional event at Salisbury Country Club in Midlothian on Aug. 24.

Peyton Lambert won first place in the 12-13 group while the older Lambert took third in the 14-15 year-old group. Not to be outdone, Vannoy claimed the top spot in the 7-9 group. All three call Piankatank River Golf Club in Hartfield their home course.

The Drive, Chip and Putt was created in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, the U.S. Golf Association and the PGA as a free nationwide junior-level “golf development competition” aimed at growing the sport amongst younger players.
