Three joint public hearings to be held Sept. 21

The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will have their hands full with three conditional use permit requests scheduled for their joint September meeting.

Public hearings on the three matters will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.

Maritime themed park

The Mathews Maritime Museum has applied for a maritime park on Milford Haven, a year after first announcing the plans.

If approved, the park would be located at the end of South Bay Haven Lane on Gwynn’s Island on 1.95 acres acquired by the county in 2016 under FEMA’s Flood Hazard Mitigation program.

The museum proposes creating a 40-car parking lot of compacted gravel, building a 20-foot by 40-foot open-sided activity pavilion and a three-unit chemical toilet building, and installing a new 10-foot by 150-foot wood pier at the site.
