THOMAS WASHINGTON ROBINSON

Thomas Washington Robinson, 76, of Gloucester, died on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at his home. He was born in Suffolk, and was the son of the late Thomas and Hilda Washington Robinson.

Tom began his career in radio in 1965 as an announcer, then sales and finally in management During his career he worked at stations in Clarksburg, W.Va., Suffolk, Va., Norfolk, Va., Richmond, Va., Statesville, N.C., Hickory, N.C., Raleigh, N.C., and Hopewell, Va., where he became general manager. In 1981, he purchased the former WDDY-AM and in 1988 the call letters were changed to WXGM-AM and in 1991 he signed on WXGM-FM, XTRA 99.1 FM.

He was a member of Virginia Association of Broadcasting, past president of Virginia Radio Network and Advisory Board. He served Gloucester County as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Gloucester County Planning Commission, and was selected as Gloucester Business Person of the Year in 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Marva A. Robinson; son, William Forrest Robinson; granddaughter, Lillian Marie Robinson; brothers, Patrick N. Robinson and David D. Robinson, and the mother of his son, Martha Ann Forrest.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, from 1-3 p.m. Due to COVID-19, masks are required and the public must practice social distancing.
