Thomas reachess 1,000 rebounds, as MHS crushes Panthers

The defending state champion Mathews High School boys’ basketball team picked right up where it left off in March to start the 2020-2021 season, crushing Charles City on the road by a 72-43 margin in the Wednesday, Dec. 23 season opener.

The game also saw senior Caleb “KK” Thomas pick up his 1,000th career rebound. Last season, the Blue Devil standout—a first-team All-State selection for 2019-2020—eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career in blue and gold.Thomas ended last season just a dozen rebounds shy of 1,000; he pulled down 13 against the Panthers.

Nasir Thomas, Landon Green, Jackson Putt and KK Thomas all ended the night in double figures. Nasir Thomas was the top scorer on the evening with 15 points. Green was close behind with 14 points. Putt and KK Thomas both had 12 points. Jackson also had a dozen rebounds in the win.
