THOMAS JOSEPH ‘TOM’ FUREY

Thomas Joseph “Tom” Furey of Gwynn’s Island, died on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the age of 85.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Margaret and his brother Bradford.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Joanne (Grant) Furey; daughter, Kathy and her husband Ray Hunley; son Eric; son Dan and his wife Kristina; son Matt and his wife Margie; grandsons, Eric, Brad, Tim, and Lucas; granddaughters Caroline, Ashley, Shannon, Alexandra and Madeline; brothers, John and Franklin; sisters, Carol and Margaret, and many good friends.

He was born on March 10, 1932 in Fall River, Massachusetts. After serving in the Army in the Korean War, he served for another 30 years in the Central Intelligence Agency in every corner of the globe. Following his adventurous and productive work life, he found his way to Gwynn’s Island where he had a long and well-earned retirement.

The company of friends was the highlight of Tom’s day and the highlight of his

life. Even as advancing years and illness slowed him down, he never gave up on the joy of fellowship or on his desire to be with his friends just one more time.

A memorial gathering will be held for Tom on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 3 p.m. at American Legion Post 83, 73 Hookemfair Road, Hudgins.
