THOMAS ADAMS

Thomas Adams of Cardinal, left this earth on Jan. 4, 2017 for his eternal home.

He was born Tomasz Adamcewicz in 1937 in Poland, which was under Stalin’s rule and was later invaded by Adolf Hitler’s troops. In 1943, his family was deported to Nazi Germany as slave labor for the duration of the war. He lived in displaced persons camps until 1951 when his family was able to come to the United States. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired after 38 years for NN Shipyard.

He was predeceased by his parents, Josef Adamcewicz and Konstancja Kuziemko Adamcewicz; two brothers, Zbigniew Adamcewicz and Janusz Adamcewicz, and his beloved grandson, Scott Thomas Holmberg.

He is survived by wife of 55 years, Jonnie Marshall Adams; three children; Laura A. Holmberg (husband Craig) of Mathews, Donna A. Machen (husband George) of Mathews, and son Thomas Christopher Adams; his sister, Alfreda A. Wisniewski of Hanover, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Catherine H. Farnham (husband Timothy) of New York City, Jonathan Andrew Holmberg of Norfolk, Mark S. Machen, James Z. Machen, John I. Machen, Esther Machen, Ruth Machen, and Peter E. Machen of Mathews.

Private burial will take place at a later date.

Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, is assisting the family.
