THMS Junior Beta places in six events

Thomas Hunter Middle School Junior Beta Club members placed in the top three in six separate events at the state convention, which was held on Feb. 18 and 19 in Richmond.

Fifty-four students, chaperones and sponsors attended the 16th annual Virginia Junior Beta Club Academic Convention at the Holiday Inn Select at Koger Center, with the Mathews youngsters competing in 20 different categories.

Thomas Hunter students placed first in Quiz Bowl, scrapbooking and charcoal sketching; placing second in individual talent and third in banner and color photography.

Caleb Selph, Melany Slaughter, Nicholas Mann and J.W. Brown were members of the winning Quiz Bowl team. The school scrapbook committee included Kai McCann, Bailey Kujawski, Mallory Sanger, Taylor South, Savanna Wooten, Allison Foster, Mariah Robinson, Emily Gaines, Will Harrington, Alyssa Smith, Emily Brady, Tori Callis, Rebecca Foster, Shelby Ethington and Melany Slaughter.
