‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ to be performed Dec. 9-10

The Moose Family Players will present its children’s production of “The Velveteen Rabbit: A Christmas Toy Story” at the Gloucester Moose Lodge on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 and 7 p.m. and a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Dec. 10.

This play, written by Patrick Flynn, is based on Margery Williams’s children’s book, “The Velveteen Rabbit.” After a child receives a rabbit for Christmas, he is at first disappointed in his gift. However, as the two quest and adventure through this storybook, both the rabbit and child grow to care for each other. They discover that love is the greatest force in the universe and can make impossible things real.

The story is poignant while still adding a lot of humor through the storybook adventures and imagination of the child. The play is fun for the entire family and full of colorful characters and toys that come to life on stage.
