Gloucester native Martha Soles started The Silver Box in 2001, and she hasn’t looked back.

After graduating from high school, Soles worked as the assistant manager at Southern Department Store, then went into the banking sector. But she came back to retail by establishing her own business on Gloucester Main Street.

Soles’s shop offers sterling silver jewelry; women’s clothing, shoes and accessories; Pandora jewelry; men’s T-shirts; and a variety of products by Lily Pulitzer and Simply Southern.

Last year, when COVID-19 hit, Soles saw it as an obstacle rather than a deal-breaker, and she ended up doing “extremely well” by offering online shopping and curbside pick-up.
