Thanksgiving is almost here! This special holiday that can bring family and friends together can also carry great hazards for our furry loved ones. The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is happy to share some tips to make this Thanksgiving one filled with gratitude, joy and safety for you and your pets.

Forbidden Food

Keep the feast on the table, not under it! Turkey can cause a life-threatening condition in pets known as pancreatitis as fatty foods are harder for animals to digest. Keep onions, raisins and grapes away as they are poisonous to our dear pets. No desserts for your pooch either as chocolate can be deadly. Yeast dough can cause issues including painful gas and bloating. Make sure all turkey carcasses and bones are placed in a covered, secured trash bag and placed into a closed trash container outdoors away from Fido.
