Testing conducted this week at Coleman Bridge

Crews tested sign pins Monday and Tuesday at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge. Brooke Grow, a Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman, said the sign pins hold informational signs in place on the bridge.

"We are inspecting them with a non-destructive ultrasonic test," Grow said Tuesday afternoon. The bridge was not closed during the tests, as only alternating shoulder closures at the span were required.

"I have been told there were no issues found," Grow said. "These tests are done periodically to ensure the pins are still intact and structurally sound."

The Coleman Bridge carries Route 17 over the York River, linking Gloucester Point and Yorktown. Recently, some routine maintenance was required on and under the span, which required multiple bridge openings on two straight Sunday mornings.
