Teen speaks of study exchange in Argentina

Maya Sirles, 16, shared details of her recent six-month study exchange in Argentina with congregation members of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock in White Stone on Jan. 8.

She is a junior at Christchurch School in Middlesex County. Last year she was an exchange student in Argentina for six months, in Luján, Buenos Aires, population 107,000. She returned home to West Point in early July.

Sirles traveled on a full scholarship provided by Youth for Understanding, an international program that has served students on six continents since the 1950s. She stayed with a host family as she learned Spanish and attended the local high school.

UUFR listeners enjoyed hearing Sirles tell how she gained new perspectives on international travel, expanded her cultural experiences, and recognized her gratitude for growing up in the United States.
