Teen charged after Ware Neck mass shooting leaves one dead

A  Hampton teenager was charged with first-degree murder and three additional felonies after he allegedly shot four persons, one of them fatally, on a Ware Neck roadway early Sunday morning.

The suspect, Dijon Whitter, 18, was taken into custody Sunday following the shootings. He was charged with first-degree murder, malicious shooting and two counts of using a firearm while committing a felony. He is being held without bond at the Gloucester County Jail.

The Gloucester Sheriff’s Office identified the homicide victim Tuesday as Joshua Steven Morrison, 18, of Yorktown. The GSO said the other shooting victims were two 20-year-old men from Newport News and a 15-year-old female from Yorktown. Their names were not released.

GSO Capt. John Schick Jr. said his office was first alerted to the shooting scene when it received a call at about 12:23 a.m. Sunday reporting a suspicious vehicle and subjects in the roadway in the area of Ditchley Road and Gill Lane.
