Talk Sunday on ‘Recognizing and Sharing Family Treasures’

Historian Bessida Cauthorne White will give a presentation at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Middlesex County Historic Courthouse, Saluda. Her topic, in observance of Black History Month, is “Recognizing and Sharing Family Treasures: Using Them to Tell Family and Community Stories.”

Her talk is presented by the Middlesex Museum and Historical Society, Inc.

White will talk about ways that she uses family treasures to engage persons of all ages in the pursuit of family history as well as how family treasures will be used in the upcoming African-American Businesses in Middlesex County exhibition at the Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society.

She will explain how attendees can offer their own treasures for inclusion in the exhibition, a notice said. Family treasures are defined as valued possessions that may have been passed down from generation to generation or may be newly acquired or created. They hold special meaning and tell stories about family members and their experiences. ...
