Swearing in

Newly-elected and reelected members of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and the Gloucester School Board were sworn in by Gloucester Circuit Court clerk Margaret Walker during a special ceremony on Dec. 20 in the colonial courthouse. Shown at the ceremony are, from left, supervisors Michael Winebarger (Petsworth), Kevin Smith (at-large) and Phillip Bazzani (York); Walker; and school board members Anita Parker (Petsworth), Brenda Mack (at-large) and Elisa Nelson (York).  According to a December 1983 article about that year’s officers taking the oath of office, they followed a long-kept tradition by placing their hands on a King James Bible that was presented in 1894 to the Circuit Court of Gloucester by William B. Taliaferro. This year, no one asked to use the Bible, according to Margaret Walker, clerk of court. Photo by Quinton Sheppard ...
