Suzanne Estelle Simms, age 91, of Gloucester, Virginia, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Sue was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to the late Arcade and Beatrice Simoneau. Sue was a woman of small stature and immense spirit. Feisty, adventurous, and fiercely self-reliant, she lived fully and on her own terms. A devoted Master Gardener and a lover of cats, she found joy in the simple, beautiful things life had to offer. She held firmly to the belief that “happiness is a choice,” and she passed that philosophy on to all who knew her. Above all, she was a remarkable mother, grandmother, and friend, and her absence leaves a profound and lasting ache in the hearts of everyone she held dear. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Paul, and daughter, Suzi. Sue is survived by her children, Paul, Annessa, and Jim; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Betty Lizotte. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 2-2:45 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service in the chapel at 3 o’clock. The inurnment will be held privately. In the spirit of the joy Sue brought to everyone around her, the family kindly asks that attendees wear bright colors in her honor.
