SUSAN RUTH WILSON

Susan Ruth Wilson, 68, of the 13000 block of Regent Park Walk, Carrollton, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.

She was born in Grinnell, Iowa, and a resident of Hampton Roads for 41 years. She was the daughter of the late Dauphin Wendel and Ruth Empting Ewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Wilson Jr., and her son, Christopher J. Cooksey.

Mrs. Wilson attended Parsons College and graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Education.

She was a retired teacher with the Virginia Beach Public School System where she was affectionately known as “Ms. Cooksey,” and taught for 30 years at Plaza Elementary, Aragona Elementary, Centerville Elementary and Brandon Middle School. She was a member of Western Branch Community Church.

Survivors include her loving children, Cynthia Kay Thompson and her husband Murray of Sedley, Va., and Gary O. Cooksey and his wife Karen of Chesapeake, Va.; her brother, Ned D. Ewart and his wife Fran of Kempner, Texas, and three grandsons, Anthony and Gavin Thompson and Brett Cooksey. She also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Wilson was passionate about life, her family, her career. Since retiring, Susan enjoyed spending time at each of her grandchildren’s activities.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Western Branch Community Church, 1935 Jollif Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Jason Hawks will officiate. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in Rosewell Memorial Gardens, Gloucester Point, Va., by the Rev. Robbie Brunjes.

The family will receive friends in the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1416 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, on Friday evening from 7-8 o’clock.

Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Humane Society.
