Susan home decked out with 40,000 lights this Christmas

 

Motorists traveling along the otherwise dark stretch of road from Mathews Court House to Bavon will encounter a bright surprise this year. Starting on Friday, Susan resident Tyler Ford will light up his home with nearly 40,000 lights to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Those driving by are invited to leave canned goods to benefit Hands Across Mathews.

Ford, who has done most all of the work himself, said his passion for decorating for Christmas began when he lived in Richmond and helped his parents decorate their home for the Tacky Light Tour in the 1990s. An active duty member of the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at Milford Haven, Ford said he has decorated homes he has lived in in North Carolina and Key West, Fla. “This is our third year here,” he said.

“This is a hobby for me,” Ford said. “It’s been a tradition in my family for a number of years.”
