Survey finds need for indoor recreation space in Gloucester

Gloucester County needs a dedicated space for indoor recreation space, including an aquatics facility, according to a randomly-selected group of citizens who participated in a needs assessment survey for Gloucester’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism department.

Art Thatcher, with GreenPlay, LLC, a recreation management consulting firm headquartered in Colorado, conducted the survey to assess the needs for the department and presented the results during the May 17 meeting of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors in the colonial courthouse.

As part of the process, Thatcher said the firm held a community-wide public meeting in December 2015, as well as focus groups and stakeholder meetings to help get a strong idea of what types of recreation were most needed and desired in the county. The other portion of the needs assessment survey was the questionnaire that was mailed out to a random sample of citizens or could be completed using an open internet link.
